MD Pathology Teaching Programme

Department of Pathology has a very well structured teaching program for its residents which consists of topic seminars, journal clubs, slide seminars, gross discussion, autopsy discussions etc. (the detailed weekly teaching programme is provide in the table below). All residents take part in the teaching activities regularly. This is in addition to daily teaching activity during reporting of the cases.

In addition the residents also participate in various inter-departmental teaching programmes like Surgical Pathology Conference, Hematology Conference, Cytolology Conference, Autopsy Conference, Mortality meeting, Research forums and Clinico-Pathological conferences.

The department has got multi-header teaching microscopes for teaching the residents during daily reporting of slides by the faculty members. The weekly slide seminar are conducted using trinocular microscope with CCD camera attachment and projection system.

 The Residents are also taught in performing various procedures like FNAC, bone marrow aspiration, bone marrow biopsy, muscle biopsy and sural nerve biopsy.

The PG Residents by rotation are posted in various sections of Pathology like Routine Histopathology, Special Histopathology, Cytology, Clinical Pathology, Special Hematology, Transfusion Medicine

Regular internal assessment exams (both theory and practicals) are held twice in a year (December and May months)

First year PG residents attend core curriculum classes in the December month. These classes cover various topics of Epidemiology & Biostatistics. Some of the classes also introduce the residents to sample collection for laboratory tests, overview of different labs in the hospital and their functioning, basic infectious disease and infection control. At the end of these classes a written exam is conducted. Those students who fail to clear this exam have to attend the next session of classes and rewrite the exam.

PGDMLT Teaching Programme

PGDMLT students are posted to Pathology and Transfusion medicine training in 2nd year of their course. During this period they are posted to various sections of Pathology and Transfusion Medicine for hands-on practical training. The posting schedule is provided in the table below.
